Suggi
A good quite place to enjoy the taste of Malnad. This afternoon, along with my family and one of our family friends we headed to Suggi’s. Suggi is on the main road connecting Basaveshwaranagar and Shankarmutt. It’s next to Panacea hospital. My first impression of the hotel from outside was it could be expensive. The waterfall added cost to it. But the bad thing was that there was no parking space. Only 2 cars were parked and yet the parking was full. I had to look for an alternative place to park my car. Meanwhile my family had made themselves comfortable in the hotel. Ambience wise it’s not so good, but they have tried thier best to make it look good. The bearers were in the traditional coastal area dress. It was a pleasant surprise when i looked at the menu card. They had some real good varieties of Veg and Non Veg food and all of them were priced well. The best part was the ragi malt kind of a thing that was a part of one of the Thali’s. Niyanthri relished it . So it looks like a good place if i need to take Niyanthri out for lunch :-) The food tasted good and i could slowly see that the restaurant was getting crowded. After lunch when we walked out we noticed that there were quite a few ppl waiting for their turn. So all in all ,a good decent place to be , if you are in a mood to taste Malnad style food.
Hi, I wanted to visit this place Suggis too but I happen to be a vegetarian. Just wanted to know, how is veg food there???
Oh... Aru please don't go......
This Sunday we wanted try this place called Suggi, close to our house, for dinner. Since my mom is from Malnad, she was all excited about the place as the board read Malnad food. The place looked very nice and decent from outside; the queue was also quite long. My dad really did not have the patience to wait, but we kids were all excited thinking about the Malnad food as we really missed our granny's food, thought the food might make the wait worth. Finally, it was our turn and all of us ran in to fill our growling stomach. As we barged in we found that the place was not spacious enough but did look quite ethnic with the servers dressed in the traditional dress. My sister and husband were all excited seeing the menu as they had their all time fav Neer dosa, Shavige and Nati Koli, my mom Akki Roti. We even ordered one of their so called special order, the waiters said "sold out". We ordered chutney to go with Akki Roti.... the word again was "sold out", finally the waiter made us order a veg kurma......Psssssstttttttt-The "sold out" idea was chutney was 20 Rs and Kurma 60!My dad and myself are vegetarians and hence ordered a veg thali. While placing the order and while waiting for the food to arrive we had a chance to glance through the servers...... who amazingly did not even follow the usual "nama bengaluru" kannada. There were just three servers around and one waiter to take the order. Finally the food arrived and we with watering mouth pounced on the food..... Neer dosa was just 2 and a half. Shavige was not even the size of an idly....the so called nati koli was not baked.....and they charged a whooping 110 bucks for that. The "STARTER" arrived mid way of our main course. We gulped the food cribbing, with an unsatisfied appetite as well as service.
My dad was sooooooo irritated that he asked the bearer for the suggestion book. He returned after about 20 mins with a small piece of paper and pen and asked my dad to write on it. This was when my dad lost it and asked if he could see the manager.
Now I don’t know how to judge if the food of Suggi was worst or the attitude of this lady. No respect towards an elderly man…..forget about he being the customer. There was not even a word of sorry or even we’ll look into it…..just nothing. Mam I seriously think you need to take a lesson on customer satisfaction. I guess the attitude was due to the crowd barging into the restaurant. I guess they are also people like us who were fooled by the other crowd and the outside appearance of the restaurant. I guess the crowd will slowly vanish after having one try.
Especially if you are from malnad you will not even step that side again……………
Heart felt suggestion-------------- NEVER TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!
Well' Aru, there is no harm in trying, after all each of us have our own tastes. The reason we went there is because i studied in Malnad for 4 years and it was a long time i tasted their delicacies.
