The Eternal Truth...

There are only 3 ways to write a blog... The Right Way, The Wrong Way and MY Way :-)

Programming Myself....

If you want something you never had, you must do something you never have done!!! - That's meee!!! can't be better:-)

Da Vinci Code

I wanted to read The Da Vinci Code, because enough people had harassed me about reading it. You haven't read the Da Vinci Code? and I think I was the only one that hadn't read it. It had been out for a some time now, and finally, it was as easy as Thiru saying, Here, I finished, and he gave it to me. It's about a quest to find truth, just in the middle of everything that's established. I think it got popular, because it's not only fiction, but it mixes in some aspects of truth, that it has people scratching their heads, saying, "Hum, could this be true?" I like the pace of the book. I felt like I was sweating, and rushing, and moving, and looking for things. The more i read, the more i felt it drew similarities with the movie - National treasure. In any case, it was fun. Fun to know that Mary Magdelene was Jesus's mistress and they had a heir who actually lives to date. I wonder what sort of research Dan had put it. All credit to him. Not many write such books which cause an uproar.

Ping Pong

The ultimate nostalgic "action" game, I developed when i was in college. This is how it all started! Click on "Run Program!" to start the game. Left player: Q=up, A=stop, Z=down. Right player: P=up, L=stop, <=down.

While rummaging some old backups, I came across this code and though would share it.As always, feel free to change the BASIC code to make this your game. For example you can add score keeping and new ball angles to make it more interesting :-)

Interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest

Interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest
There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very
interesting aspects of his life

1) He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!
2) He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.
3) He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha , that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.
4) He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.
5) He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.
6) His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis.
7) He has given his CEO's only two rules. Rule number 1: do not lose any of your share holder's money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.
8) He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch television.
9) Bill Gates, the world's richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet.
10) Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.
11) His advice to young people: Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself.

Beauty of MatheMazic

1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111

9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888

Brilliant, isn't it?
And finally, take a look at this symmetry:

1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111=123456789 87654321

Have a look at my label cloud, I don't mean I invented it. Goodness me no. But here's how it's done:I was checking out Hackosphere where I found the expandable post summaries javascript hack, and saw a link to phydeaux3's blog, with this most excellent entry: Code for Beta Blogger Label Cloud. It's very clearly and beautifully explained, so all you need is to pay phydeaux3 a visit and follow the instructions. You can change the font family, colours and font sizes once you've entered the basic code in the right places.
Cheers to these men and many more...when i went googling around!!!!

Microsoft Word bug?

Interesting enough, according to Microsoft Word, Vinny spent 3709 minutes editing this document which is about 62 hours. I presume the actual time is much longer, since this does not reflect file versions. But even more interesting is the fact that this document was printed before it was created. Go figure how that works!!!!

Well Mr. Gates, we do agree with what you said "I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act"

Going the IPOD way!!!

Man used MP3 player to hack ATMs

Well atleast he found another way to hack into the ATM's. Thats the security you have for Free standing ATM's. Now I am sure,it got Steve Jobs thinking what else thier MP3 revolution is gonna start !!!
I did'nt come here to tell you how it ends, i came here to tell you how this begins :-)

Secret XP Theme Uncovered!!!

Shortly after the launch of XP, somewhere in M$ HQ, someone on the M$ design team was in the progress of developing something for Media Center. It was believed to be way too powerful for public consumption and forever archived in the servers of M$. Now 3 years later, a young prodigy by the name of W3bbo saw light of this unheard theme, and traveled far and wide to unravel its mysteries. One theme to find. One theme to upload. One theme to download. One theme to rule them all.
hehehehe, enough Lord of the Rings talk for one day. Let me cut the crap and show you how to unravel this beauty.
Extract files to “c:\windows\resources\themes\royale noir” and double click on “luna.msstyles”. Select “Noir” from color scheme. Code-signed by Microsoft. No UXTheme hack required.
As I reiterate again, I take no credit for this amazing find. W3bbo did an amazing job uncovering this mystery XP theme, hats off to him !!! Just supporting his cause!!!!

Rule of 72 - frugal living ideas

There are so many temptations in our consumer-driven society. I mean, I already have an iPod Mini and I still want a iPod shuffle! And who doesn’t need another laptop? One of the ways I keep myself from spending too frivolously, other than the frugalness instilled by parents of limited means, is to keep in mind the magnificent wonder of compounding.
For instance, say you didn’t buy the 1K impulse item and instead put it into a stock market index fund, earning a reasonable average of 8% each year. After one year, you’d get 1.8K After two, you’ll have 2.26K. Not very exciting. But in thirty years that 1K will turn into over !!!! Now that is that 1K widget worth 50K? Or in my case, that 10K iPod Shuffle worth 50 K?? I think not. I like to use 30 thirty years because by then I’ll be 57 and ideally retired, and “saving” an extra thousand here and there will definitely help that happen. It also leads to the nice 10x factor.
A handy way to do compound interest in your head with other rates is to use the popular “Rule of 72. The rule of 72 states that in order to find the number of years required to double your money at a given interest rate, you can just divide the interest rate into 72. For example, if you want to know how long it will take to double your money at eight percent interest, divide 8 into 72 and you’ll get 9 years.
It also works backwards. If you want to double your money in four years, just divide 4 into 72 to find that it will require an interest rate of about 18 percent. This also means that a person with a credit card balance and a rate of 18% will, ignoring minimum payments, have their balance double in four years! Ouch.

Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for its counterfeit

Don of Geeks

Sometime back i had taken a geek test and scored 99 %. So my natural instincts started looking at the 1 % that was not me ( read Geek). So in an attempt to conquer the 1 % , my (mini me) has captured me ... and in fact if u are reading any further then its been compiled by ME(mini me)

1.If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0
2.I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
3.Perl, the only language that looks the same before and after RSA encryption
4.How are we supposed to hack your system if it's always down!
5.Having soundcards is nice... having embedded sound in web pages is not
6.Sorry, the password you tried is already being used by John, please try something else
7.You have successfully logged in, Now press any key to log out
8.All computers run at the same speed... with the power off
9.A printer consists of three main parts: the case, the jammed paper tray and the blinking red light
10.Hey! It compiles! Ship it!

Hey... get off me ....looks like he cloned me 100 % now !!!!

Ain't I different????

I don’t assume that popularity = crap;
I don’t assume that popularity = excellence.
I assume that popularity = popularity, and the reasons for that will vary. Ain't I different????

My view - Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong

India ponders moon landing

Our budget at the moment stands at just 37bn rupees [£435m]. A moon programme begins at 150bn rupees.

haha.....i dunno what the deal is with china too wanting to do the moon's an achievable goal..............but we have a good thing going on with outsourcing industries and i think investing the money in infrastructure and other priorities instead of a space programme !!!! Think of the returns sir!!!

Everything is possible just not too probable

What abt prodigies like me???

"Whenever I find the key to success, someone changes the lock."

"The road to success…….. is always under construction"

"All the desirable things in life are either illegal, expensive or fattening. "

You can pick any, this is the epitome of my life :-(. with the promotion enthu i decided to become a PMP, but the damn PMI website lists that i need another 1 year of experience to take up PMP... and the exam sums to 50K approx.
Can't they relax it for a child prodigy like me!!! Lemmme call them and find out :-)

0.999… is the same as 1. Not just very close, but precisely identical:

a = 0.999…
10a = 9.999…
10a - a = 9.999… - 0.999…
9a = 9
a = 1

There's no trick here. It's just a mathematical fact that most people find deeply counterintuitive.

North Karnataka Temples

Hornadu-->Sringeri-->Kollur-->Gokarna-->Murdeshwara-->Udupi-->Idgunji-->Annegudda-->Kateel-->Dharmasthala-->Kukke Subramania

Phew!!! that was october bonus for me. I was more like SharavanaKumar taking mom and dad to all places... a modern day ....

And i guess all gods and godesses have been extremely happy with my devotion.. I just got promoted :-)

Success usuallly comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.

Back to Bangalore

All's well thats ends well.Just got back from trip.Catching up with all the emails and office work. This is going to take some time.
Again the comming weekend is planned for another temple tour of north karnataka... whats up with me??? i am off to lot of temples... who cares, shankaracharya renounced the world at age 8, can;'t i at 27 :-)

Mushy's Book - Unabridged :-)

This was funny!!! I read some excerpts that was put up in TOI & some forum's.. and i felt the book should be aptly titled .."In the line of LIAR" :-) He is definetly shaping up as Khushwant Singh of Pakistan..

Mush : On the Agra summit failure "There is the man and there is the moment. When man and moment meet history is made. Vajpayee failed to grasp the moment and lost his moment in history"
No Mr Mush, the moment was not Agra it was Amristar - when that old man boarded a bus to Lahore. It was Mrs Gandhi and the moment was Shimla. It was Nehru and the moment was Kashmir... if u don;t know what i am talking... try revising your history..

Mush : says, India obtained its Nuclear centrifuge and some of its missile technology from Pakistan through A Q Khan's dudes in Dubai.
Yes Mr Mush, personally I remember Indians returning home from Dubai carrying little neutron devices and detonators in VIP suitcases.
You know what, the authour of Indian bomb programme and Pak bomb programme reside in New Delhi, the capital of India. The first one resides in Rashtrapati Bhavan, the second one is a India Today reporter who on an overdose of ecstasy, wrote you guys had a nuclear bomb ( someone in Pakistan read the article and then you guys started claiming you had THE BOMB )Bottomline is YOU DONT HAVE THE BOMB (You want one ? We'll drop one over Karachi)...

We dont mind a Ibrahim,Dawood smuggling gold from Dubai - at times we adore his style but he'll pay for the two fifty seven dead in Bombay '93.
We dont mind a Prabhakaran,Velupillai playing a tiger or a lion for his brothers - at times we sympathize with his cause but he'll pay for our youthful leader's life he took in May '91.
We dont mind a Musharaff,Pervez writing an autobiography - at times we make it a best seller but he'll pay for the five hundred and twenty two young men dead in Kargil '99.
So make merry - now you have a best sellerthis time its for you :-)

Pilani Pics :-)

I Failed to take my digicam to Pilani and was just left with my Mobile camera. Though the pics have not come out soooo well.... i would still blame the climate.... :-)These two pics - one overlooking the museum & main BITS building and the Saraswati temple are worth seeing...

Delhi or New Delhi!!!

Getting into delhi from Pilani was a good feeling. Mom and Dad were just back from Hrishikesh and Haridwar while i was in Pilani. How i wish i joined them. After that we planned a trip to Mathura, Vrindavan, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri and Akshardhama. All other monuments like India Gate, Qutub minar, Lotus temple etc i covered while travelling to these places.Mathura and Vrindavan were very good and infact the Krishna Janma bhoomi ( the prison in which Krishna was born) was very enchanting. I was spellbound and i could feel some vibrations in that place. Also the madhuban wasa very good.I sometimes wonder, did Krishna really exist? Well i am onto some soul searching in spirutality now.Taj was spectacular but only from outside. It was damn hot when we reached there and the place smelled crazy. I just walked away. I had a suggestion to india Gov, pls increase the entrance fee for foreigners from $ 50 to $100. they would anyways pay that much and to see one of the wonders of the world. Also encourage research which claims that Taj was not built by Shah Jahan but was a ancient vedic temple of Shiva.Fathepur sikri was good with its forts and spirits looming. I think i will upload some pics.

There you go:-)

ViVa Voce Day!!!

Got up early and got ready to face the Viva. We were given maps and instructions on how to reach the classroom for the session from the Dean.Yeas, map is a must as the Pilani campus is huge and you can easily get lost if you are new.Once we reached the classroom, The Dean a nice man talked to us and gave us a history about BITS and spoke about many other things. After that we were scheduled our VIVA sessions and asked to meet the examiner. What happened after this - i finished my VIVA in just 10 mins. I harldy got to show him my slides and the examiner was more than busy.I was really pissed off, but did not want to upset the examinar. So just walked off. Later i learnt that this examiner had done the same to others as well.Kinda relieved. FOr the good or bad... I finished my exams and i was to be certified as MS :-) That gives a sense of pride, especially if a deemed university like BITS confers that.Anyways i was done with that, and while i thought about the ardous return jouney backt to Delhi. One of my friends offered me a ride in thier car.It was pleasure drive and we reached delhi in 4.5 hours.
Now i am just waiting for my Transcripts and final degree certificate:-)

Journey to Pilani - 2

Its quite some time i conlcuded this. There are lots of things in my mind which i feel should get penned down, but unfortunately i get all these ideas when i do not have any gizmo around me :-)
So.... I reached Delhi safely, thanks to the pilot.Dad was waiting at the airport along with the driver. We got into the Innova and they dropped me at the ISBT. Man!!! you should visit ISBT;now i know where the dengue starts. The place sucks with all pan spitting, houseflies, mosquitoes and what not.Not to mention how much it stinks. On enquiring i found that i still had a few hours before the bus to Pilani departs, so i made myself comfy in the MacDonald that was nearby.
After painstaking timepassing, i got into the bus that was headed towards Pilani. This ardous journey is something that no BITSAA can forget. The 6.5 hrs of journey made me think of evry god i was aware off.The driver was a pro..if only he had a Ferrari (forget the road condition) he would completed all laps even before schumi wud have done half.He ripped like a maniac and cursing anyone and everyone. Man Haryana transport is one hell of a transport company and thier recruits are worth mentioning.I did make a couple of friends who were also headed to Pilani, but i am sure all were also immersed in the same thoughts.FInally reached pilani at 8:00pm and made our way to VFAST hostel. The place made me feel great and i forgot all about the dreadfull journey. The room was awesome and i was surprised to find it was AC.The food served there was of top quality and everyone relished it.
Hoping that the Viva would be easy we went to bed.

Journey to Pilani - 1

Dad left to Delhi a couple of days earlier so that he could pack of some work before we arrived. Ah yes, we were off to Delhi. Well, I had my MS final exam - the Viva & demo which had to be presented in Pilani.
Our flight was scheduled at 6.40 am and the excitement began a day before , as dad kept calling me every now and then reminding me of the Do's and Don'ts. It's really annoying when someone does that and my dad's an expert:-) And gosh.. the pressure got the better of me and i kind of forgot to book the cab :-) Thanks Mom!! The MS is for U.
So we get our baggage and barge the airport and end up on time for the flight.WoW!!! Kingfisher, Mr.Mallya you sure do have a taste. The hostess and attenders were sooo desirable. All i could do was signal my mom to look for a hostess for me and it better be Kingfisher brand. Hostess kept me busy with a lot of stuff and in the end i had to fill the feedback form( dirty mind... i know what you are thinking :-) )

And now my mind wanders into the sky - red dressed , professionally polite and full of empathy beauties...It's so easy for girls to fake :-) and not to mention how a little makeup can change them so much :-)

What happened next??? did i reach delhi ??? or......

Sania Mirza or Maniac Sania!!!

The quarter-final loss to lower ranked Olga Poutchkova of Russia at the Tashkent Open brought another plunge in Sania Mirza's ranking as she dropped six places to be 61st on the latest WTA world rankings.
The other day as expected Martina Hingis won the SunFeast Open; as expected Hingis met Sania in the SemiFinal of the Open; and again, as expected the Swiss Miss defeated the Indian tennis star in that match. Defeated did I say? The word should actually be drubbed, clobbered, routed, humiliated - for once, the scoreline (6-1, 6-0) exactly indicated how the match went - absolutely lopsided; Sania had no answers to Hingis' graceful strokes, while Sania's famous "powerful" shots were totally out of control.

Yes, everybody has a bad day, but then a great athlete will pull oneself out of the abyss and try to scale the peak again. One hasn't seen Sania do this in a long long time and the next time she opines that it is "humanly impossible to perform at the same level every year", one should just ask her to look across the net at the likes of Martina Hingis - the comeback star of the year - or at the other Martina who turned pro years before Sania was even born and who recently announced her retirement after winning her nth grand slam title!

Same time last year, Sania was at the peak of her career and much admired. She truly was the icon of many a youngster in this country, symbolic of what we Indians can achieve if we really wish to do so. She was brazen, intrepid, dauntless and irreverent - the future face of India. Despite what she showed she could achieve, I do believe that the welcome she got on her return home was uncalled for - she wasn't yet a champion, not even close, having just started on a grueling, arduous journey on the road towards becoming one, someday probably. And Sania should have known this - but she revelled in the accolade, the adulation and the laurels, and started to believe she was worthy of it, that she has indeed reached the top, scaled the peak.

When she was awarded the Padmashree last year, I remember asking hubby, an ardent sports fan, if she really deserved it. To me, it seemed to come way too early in her career. The criteria to get a Padmashree award is defined as "excellence in their field". When did one decently good year translate to "excellence" in one's field? One cannot expect a child just learning to take his/her first steps to run - it has to be taken one step at a time, stumbling and getting up again, first with help and than without, getting a footing first and then finally taking a leap. Even if you do race down the track on your first outing, you would need to step back and evaluate your performance, so that the first race doesn't become the last one. But for some reason the powers that be decided that Sania was worth a "Padma" award.

This premature "recognition" of her "greatness" also seems to have gone to Sania's head. She has fallen a couple of notches down from the peak she presumed she had scaled last year, yet her head seems to be still stuck somewhere in the clouds above. I know she is indeed a role model for a lot of youngsters in the country today, and she has an an implicit social responsibility. But it still doesn't warrant her saying , "An `if or but' from my lips can create a national crisis''. I know she is young, and probably doesn't realize the enormity of those words, yet the same social responsibility that she is referring to requires her to think and act more sensibly, isn't it? The conceit in her tone and the speech, I am sure, isn't really lost nor is it actually condonable.

Success doesn't come easy. And it doesn't sit easy on anyone's head. Sania has the game, and has the power in her shots - but she is no way close to being a winner, a real champion. Yes, she is not even 20, but then so is Maria Sharapova and the distance between them is apparent - both on and off the courts. In this sports-personalities-starved nation it is easy to become someone the public reveres, but that doesn't necessarily make one a winner. Victory of any kind has to be won, gotten by a lot of sweat, strength of will and hardness of heart; not to forget extreme decency and dignity and sensibility.

Sania, you have a long way to go and it would help you as well as the millions who idolize you if the focus was indeed on the path ahead. You need role models? Look around you, they are all there - from Pete Sampras to Steffi Graf to Federer.

Gandhigiri Rocks !!!

I saw Lage Rahoo Munna Bhai again today. This was my second time. Not that i din understand the first time :-) but because i liked the "Gandhigiri" concept :-) opposite of "Dadagiri". With Oct 2 tomorrow, the "Mahatma" feels alive.Gandhi. Poora naam, ‘Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’. Munnabhai, the cult Indian movie has injected a dose of Gandhigiri in our country. A nation of billion people is bombarded with news from all media vehicles on how Gandhigiri rocks in today’s world of deception. Gandhi had moved a nation to action through his out of the box style of protests against the British non-violence and integrity being his weapons of choice. Munnabhai relives Gandhian philosophy in the 21st Century. Kudo's to the makers to the movie, who are driving this, rather than having the lead guy do super human efforts to save the country :-)
And look what i bumped into The official Gandhigiri Website :-) have fun Gandhigiri ROCKS!!!

Bush Vs PM's daughter

She is 36-year-old — the New York-based youngest daughter of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. But Amrit Singh is grabbing the world attention with her legal battle against Pentagon, that too when her father, the veteran architect of Indian free-market reforms, is busy making ‘friendship’ with her adversary none other than the US President George W. Bush.

Amrit needs not much introduction. As an Indian prime minister’s daughter, she has done what many would not even dream of doing. Armed with just a law degree and some experience, she has confronted the US government

This is interesting enuff to share with you!!! he he he heh Democratic Ticket Aspirations? Yale Law School, ACLU all of that falls into place..... but i was thinking is the Bush admin feeling the heat? or is that like an ant trying to f*** an elephant

Whirly Wednesday!!!

Alarm goes off - brrrr! brrrr! Shit! Forgot to take it off the annoying vibrate mode. Grope under the pillow to locate it before it gets louder . Aha! Found it! Shut it, you stupid thing!
Trudge to the loo. Bang into the bedstead, slip over a stray bag, curse, close the door and sit on the bog for blessed peace. Brush teeth, try to get the door key whilst brushing.I am doing most of the work, myself.
Looking at the nature - a couple of plants is all i can see.Teeth brushed.
Start loping off towards 1st floor, door's still closed. Give a tight knock and act as though i got up a few hours before. Soon enough, the door opens and mommy does not even bother to see me. Well i am her only son, phew. Order for the coffee, he ha that what i do. Sip first mouthful of coffee standing at the door step - ahhh, heaven. Trudge back to the sofa, look for today's newspaper step on a sray pen - damn, it hurts! Wince, hop and sit gingerly on a book, trying not to upset the coffee on the carpet.
Finally! A moment to enjoy that surrealistic experience of the morning coffee with the newspaper in hand. Only filled with city crime beats.. what a way to kick start the day.
Check laptop.. no new mails .. hmnn... does anybody know that i am still alive...
Switch Radio ONE - 'Roobarooo... Roshini.....' well, good morning to you too, ARR. Where are my keys gone? Drat! Oh good morning, nice neighbour.
Where's that shirt I pressed last night? Drat! Was there a spot on it then? Oh hell! Well, this one here looks reasonably uncrumpled. Do I have time to steam it? Natch! Would get crumpled en route anyways. Trousers - black or grey? Blue. 'Bout five minutes early today - cool! Oy is the boss man going to be pleased with me today or what?
Doddering old man, out of my way, please. Why did I pick this silly shoe out of all the silly shoes in the shoeniverse? The bloody thing's hungry all the time. Chews my poor feet to pieces every time. And why does the light change to red the minute I go near a crossing? Lane discpline??? whats that mean anyways !!!
Hmm, traffic is light today. That's rare. Oh well, more space in the road for me. 'Someday ... by flipsyde...' man! do I love that song or what. Puts a nice spring on my step, that song does. Whoa! Why are you cleaning the pavement today, man? That's what the weekends are for!
GOSH!!!! some bloddy damn politician on his way..Now i am stuck. Stuck with another 500 cars or so.. Is this ever gonna end.
Finally! Made it - ooh! Where's the stupid security man gone? I ain't that early - they haven't even cleaned my desk:-)
lazy guys!!! always me on my job :-)

"Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar. "

Why Johnny can't code

Well there are so many - so called software developers doing rounds who claim to code in this IT industry.Dan Bricklin's web site has an article named 'Why Johnny Can't Code,' an interesting examination of the dearth of line programming languages available today. At first I wanted to read this and say aha, here's a simple line oriented language that's available through open source, but after reading the article I couldn't find any. And being an fart, I remember the days spent with basic and fortran."

Microsoft Re-Re-Releases IE Patch

Acknowledging that its patching process has "not been an example of our best work," Microsoft this week issued a second update to security bulletin MS06-042, which was released in August. The original patch included a security vulnerability - and it turns out the fix introduced even more. The patched caused IE6 to crash when a site that uses the HTTP 1.1 protocol and compression is visited. It was later discovered that the bug also opened the door to attackers. The existence of a vulnerability in the patch was first announced by eEye Digital Security, which Microsoft chided for publicly disclosing the flaws.

Freedom to READ

What was your favorite book when you were in school?Did F. Scott Fitzgerald give you an inside look at a world of glamorous parties where the wealthy fell in love and went home with their feelings hurt?Yet every year, there are hundreds of attempts to remove great books from schools and libraries nationwide
For 25 years, libraries and bookstores nationwide have been celebrating the freedom to read during Banned Books Week.

Now Google has joined the party. At , you can use Google Book Search to explore some of the best novels of the 20th century which have been challenged or banned. And while libraries and bookstores around the country celebrate the 25th anniversary of Banned Books Week with special readings, displays, and more, you just might end up with a visit to your local library or bookstore and an old favorite or a new banned book in hand.

"The most insignificant book is the one which deals with the feelings of women in a drawing-room"

Is anyone listening????

How many times have you read the following in a help wanted ad or job description: must have good verbal and written communication skills? Almost all service industry jobs these days seems to demand proficiency in those areas from candidates considering employment.

When I read that I assume they mean they require people who can express themselves intelligently and have the ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely. They want you to have the ability to write a letter outlining a issue or explain something verbally to a customer. I would also believe that they require you to be able to listen and understand what you are told by your supervisor and a client.

The funny part ? well every one claims to be highly competent in these areas and you realize thier rating scale when you actually talk to them :-)

1. They can't distinguish between he/she. Its a license to mix them up as and when they want.

2. Keyword driven. Just utter the keyword and its you who have to draw out a series of questions to understand what they mean.

3. One line emails. For heaven sake we are not testing you ability to condense issues.

4.Direct - mother tongue translation. Just convert your ideas into english exactly the same way you would talk in your mother tongue,Don;t just bother syntax and semantics :-)

5.Answer a question with another question :-)

And to talk about, these are the very people who demand over compensation, threaten to quit projects in between and demand promotions :-)

Way of the world !!!!

Career Change!!!

Alternate professions are all the rage now, and in a week's time I've seen articles on career switch and dual careers in n magazines and websites. While at it, I must also admit that my dreams, immaterial of how likely they turn real, have been inspired by people around me..
Like every other ---- s/w engineer (apologies for generalising, I'm sure there are a whole lot of you who are here for good), I too have these occasional dreams of leaving the industry and doing fancy stuff. What those are, I'll tell you in a while, post digression. I'm not unhappy with work, on the contrary I've never before been as happy as I'm right now. But there are times when the romantic in me gets a hold on the complacent other half and starts dictating stuff to him.
Now is one of those times
These are a few options that are already on my list: Can you guys think of anything better or more fun?
1)Run a Farm House: My latest Fav and infact i am working on it. Oh i love this stufff... picture this - a tired techie (heheheh) runs away from city and settles down admist beautiful green fields with no internet, laptop and cell ( most essential stuffs for a techie). All in scenic beauty.

2)Start a restaurant: This a very recent addition, thanks to discovering the celebrity techie turned chef and his blog. A speciality upmarket restaurant perhaps, continental cuisine coz thats what I like best save andhra food(the bit about having to like what you do), and the andhra cuisine has suffered enough at the hands of the various wannabe restaurants in the city.
Pros: Its the fanciest stuff on my list. I love food. Mom not preparing good stuff.
Cons: and also the most expensive, perhaps.
Come to think of it, I could actually start one in my hometown though am not too sure the place is ready for it.

3)Join theatre or some performing arts group. This is fascinating, and I might actually go for it, given a chance.I am heavily talented. I am a joker and can make ppl laugh with my antics.

4) Start a montessori school. Its not coz I'm fond of kids, I sure am, but this is more like a nice business proposition, given all the young rich parents in blore.

5) Start a consultancy: Provide in house motivation to big corporates who are low on life and morale and in the process me rake money.

6)Start a training institute: Not that i have lot of intellectualy properties for discourse, but atleast i will not have deadlines.

They laugh at me because i am so different, but i laugh back because they all are the same..

Lage Raho!!!!

I have had a bad weekend.Life in office took hair pin blind curve, that rocked everyone. My US counterpart just got fired!!!! Nothing spectacular happend socially as well. It was a sad weekend. So i decided to put some life by atleast ending it on a good note. After all "All's well that end's well".
We just picked up a DVD - Corporate and then decided watch Lage Raho Munna Bhai...We got the ticket but also loads of complex :-) Two HOT girls took the seat beside us. For once after seeing them we suddenly developed complex complex :-) The girls were so desirable but i duuno what was with us. Thiru refused to sit next to them and i was reluctant. The movie was good and the whole theatre enjoyed except for us, we were rotting with complex. And the worst part, what ever conversation we tried was not even in english.Golly the girls must have thought...:-) . And when we walked to the parking lot, we saw so many pretty girls that we just started our vehicle and zoomed .Well what better way to end the weekend.
Is that cheap? My self esteem isn't at its best today

Smile and the world will smile with you..... Laugh and they will all think you are on drugs......

Gandhi to power the Future

So yesterday I got to thinking. Gandhi would be spinning in his grave if he knew what was going on. We could moan and groan about how bad things are but I have a totally different idea. Lets put all that grave turning to good use. I have a radical plan to use our disgruntled forefathers to power the future. My plan is simple yet elegant. We dig Gandhi up, cover him with copper wire, surround his grave with strong permanent earth magnets. Hook some wires up and let him twirl. My simple calculations show that one single “Gandhi” unit could produce as much as 1 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
Or 1 gigawatt hour of energy. This sounds like a lot but our country uses about 3848 gigawatt hours of energy each year. The only way we are going to be able to power our country is to dig up all of our great dead leaders and wire them up as well. Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, I am sure we can find enough. There is only one fatal flaw in this whole plan. Once our country is completely powered by the spinning of pissed off dead people, we would no longer need oil, gas, or nuclear power supplies. We would no longer have to pay large subsides to oil companies, go to war for more fuel, or elect brain dead oil tycoon puppets into office. This would have the effect of seriously limiting the amount of spin we would get out of our dead great leaders. I have thought of this as well, when we achieve this point, we will dig up all the old dead bad leaders and wire them up. This way we will have clean renewable energy for ever.

“Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders.”

Utilikilts - Skirts for Men!!!

The “Utilikilt” seems like a great idea, its like a cargo skirt for men. I always wondered why men with “junk” always wore pants, and women, with no “junk” wear free flowing skirts and dresses. Frankly men should have picked up the kilt a long time ago. Long live junk freedom.

“Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”

M$ + Firefox = Lethal combination?

I can't believe this , Mozilla has accepted Microsoft's offer of help toward ensuring interoperability between Firefox and the upcoming Vista operating system.

Microsoft's offer to help came on Saturday when Sam Ramji, director of the company's open-source lab, posted an open letter on a blog used by Mozilla developers. Microsoft offered to open up a new open-source facility at its headquarters in Redmond, Wash., to Mozilla software engineers, including giving them one-on-one time with Microsoft workers. The offer includes help with Mozilla's Thunderbird e-mail client.

Given the past history and reputation of M$, it won't be long before M$ starts packaging Firefox and Thunderbird XUL components into VISTA

ION pump for Microchips

This is truly going to change the computing industry .. especially for server farms.
It's awesome .. kind of like the thermoelectric coolers. The temp gradient is pretty impressive .. i wonder how they are going to fix the condensation problem also the comment at the bottom about the pump being able to get clogged seemed interesting ... i do wonder about it.
The device, which uses an electrical charge to create a cooling air jet right at the surface of the chip, could be critical to advancing computer technology because future chips will be smaller, more tightly packed and are likely to run hotter than today's chips. As a result, tomorrow's computers will need cooling systems far more efficient than the fans and heat sinks that are used today.

"With this pump, we are able to integrate the entire cooling system right onto a chip," said Alexander Mamishev, associate professor of electrical engineering and principal investigator on the project. "That allows for cooling in applications and spaces where it just wasn't realistic to do before."

Jai Hanuman

When the lesson of virtue and devotion is layered with wholesome adventure and colourful episodes, finding attentive disciples shouldn't be such a problem. And if it happens to come in animation, then the outcome cannot be but entertaining.
I don't know how much today's generation knows about this adorable god, known by various names like Mahaveer, Pavanputra, Maruti, Ramdoot, Anjaniputra,Vayuputra,Hanuman and Bajrangbali. Without trying to sound too smug, I must admit, my generation was clearly better off. Thanks to good old grandma, Amar Chitra Katha comics and Ramanand Sagar's long-running television saga Ra
mayan, we are well versed with Lord Hanuman and his feats of unsurpassable bravery
Whether it was his desire to uproot the sun from the sky mistaking it for a fruit as an infant or putting the golden nation of Lanka afire with his tail, Hanuman's unconventional godliness makes him an eternal favourite. But the triumph lies in the fact that the animation is truly good [it should prove to be a novel experience for Indian moviegoers] and the narrative has the power to keep you hooked to the proceedings for the entire 90 minutes.
On the whole, HANUMAN comes at a time when Bollywood is truly going through a major transition and the moviegoers are ready for challenges. After having watched the animation version, one can only feel proud that at least someone has had the courage to invest time, effort and resources in a project that can easily compete with the West. All said, HANUMAN will appeal to children from 6 to 60.
Overall, I'd say Hanuman is worth a watch, age notwithstanding, not for the animation but its timeless history and absorbing narrative.

Jai Hanuman!!!!

WOS - Web OS !!!!!

YouOS is an experiment in a new kind of computing platform. Its still in its alpha stage when i got there. You can view here YouOS
The demo was mind blowing.
I think that it would be smart move for YouOS developers to get somehow Google backing - maybe sell it to Google. (but stay on development)
With Google backing this WOS could develop faster.
Considering all of Google's current offerings. I mean, if you think about it, what Google offerings are currently overpriced? Could Google overprice something like YouOS? Absolutely, but I believe their history shows otherwise. Now, if we were talking about Microsoft, then that would be another story....
I think where something like YouOS would be very, VERY useful to Google would be to provide a slick "launch pad" for its apps. Right now, Google has some excellent applications, but unfortunatly, they are all disjointed and seperate. There's no simple jumping-off point. (with the possible exception of but that still falls shore requiring tweaking.) A "desktop" metaphore with built-in (and that's important), consistent, and tailorable access to all the Google apps would be very nice indeed. (Thus the reason I've been creating and modifying several of those Google application launchers here on YouOS.) Just keep it in the "Google philosophy" of lean, fast, and simple to use. I personally think something like YouOS has these elements in place.

Top 10 Dumbest

10 dumb ideas... millions of dumber people that made these ideas a hit..

1. Million Dollar Homepage
1000000 pixels, charge a dollar per pixel – that’s perhaps the dumbest idea for online business anyone could have possible come up with. Still, Alex Tew, a 21-year-old who came up with the idea, is now a millionaire.

2. SantaMail
Ok, how’s that for a brilliant idea. Get a postal address at North Pole, Alaska, pretend you are Santa Claus and charge parents 10 bucks for every letter you send to their kids? Well, Byron Reese sent over 200000 letters since the start of the business in 2001, which makes him a couple million dollars richer.

3. Doggles
Create goggles for dogs and sell them online? Boy, this IS the dumbest idea for a business. How in the world did they manage to become millionaires and have shops all over the world with that one? Beyond me.

4. LaserMonks is a for-profit subsidiary of the Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Spring Bank, an eight-monk monastery in the hills of Monroe County, 90 miles northwest of Madison. Yeah, real monks refilling your cartridges. Hallelujah! Their 2005 sales were $2.5 million! Praise the Lord.

5. AntennaBalls
You can’t sell antenna ball online. There is no way. And surely it wouldn’t make you rich. But this is exactly what Jason Wall did, and now he is now a millionaire.

6. FitDeck
Create a deck of cards featuring exercise routines, and sell it online for $18.95. Sounds like a disaster idea to me. But former Navy SEAL and fitness instructor Phil Black reported last year sales of $4.7 million. Surely beats what military pays.

7. PositivesDating.Com
How would you like to go on a date with an HIV positive person? Paul Graves and Brandon Koechlin thought that someone would, so they created a dating site for HIV positive folks last year. Projected 2006 sales are $110,000, and the two hope to have 50,000 members by their two-year mark.

8. Designer Diaper Bags
Christie Rein was tired of carrying diapers around in a freezer bag. The 34-year-old mother of three found herself constantly stuffing diapers for her infant son into freezer bags to keep them from getting scrunched up in her purse. Rein wanted something that was compact, sleek and stylish, so in November 2004, she sat down with her husband, Marcus, who helped her design a custom diaper bag that's big enough to hold a travel pack of wipes and two to four diapers. With more than $180,000 in sales for 2005, Christie's company, Diapees & Wipees, has bags in 22 different styles, available online and in 120 boutiques across the globe for $14.99.

9. TruGamerz
Faux-suede padded covers for game controllers and gel thumb pads for analog joysticks? No one will buy that. Forget it. The product proved to be so popular, it got picked up by and and annual sales new exceed half a million dollars.

10. Lucky Wishbone Co.
Fake wishbones. Now, this stupid idea is just destined to flop. Who in the world needs FAKE PLASTIC wishbones? A lot of people, it turns out. Now producing 30,000 wishbones daily (they retail for 3 bucks a pop) Ken Ahroni, the company founder, expects 2006 sales to reach $1 million.

Take my advice.... I dont need it anywayz

Pluto's out now

The International Astronomical Union have voted to remove Pluto from the solar system--as a planet, that is. The international organization of astronomers rejected a proposal last week to increase the number of planets to 12 by including Ceres, the largest known asteroid, which orbits between Mars and Jupiter; Charon, which has been considered Pluto's moon; and the recently discovered 2003 UB313, an object nicknamed Xena that was discovered in 2005 orbiting far beyond Pluto. Pluto and the other three objects may be considered planet dwarves by astromers.

In February 2006, images from the Hubble Space Telescope confirmed the existence of two new moons orbiting Pluto. Pluto and Charon are gravitationally locked so the same sides always face each other. They orbit each other every 6.3 Earth days. Charon is covered by water ice.
...seem if they allowed Pluto to remain a planet, then too many new objects have to be acknowledged as a planet too taking the number to 20...i suppose 8 is better than 20 too difficult to remember 20 names..
But the weird thing is that the whole Indian astrology is dependent on these nine planets and all the rules are made keeping these nine planets and their positions( in respect to each other at a certain time) and so on .....Now if one planet is removed or a new one added the whole astrology goes fake?

Can't they just let these Astronomical Bodies to R.I.P.

Micro$oft's answer to iPod .... Zune????

I am simply amazed by my IPOD. Not because its a apple product, but becaz of its simplicity and the effect it produces on your ears.It rocks!!!!!. I have a iRiver , but i like my IPOD better. The only thing i feel missing is the radio!!!.But who cares, i still love my IPOD.
And Microsodt is one company that can't stand competition, be it PS2 or IPOD - Micro$oft is releasing a portable MP3 player to compete with the mighty iPod. Its supposed to have some kinda wifi connectivity. No solid info about this product is out yet from Micro$oft. Here are some articles i found

Day Late And Dollar Short

Weak Will

Just when i thought i was going strong on my "will" of being regular to GYM, party season has hit me hard.I workout in the evening and then party harder in the night, thus gaining more than i am loosing.
We just been for lunch at this awesome place called "Hyderabadi house".. wow, the biryani is sooooo damn mouth watering... if you ever come by this place, its highly recommended.
Now that we had our lunch today there and i almost dozzed off a couple of times. thanks to my team , keeping me awake by askin ever so important questions.
I am so dead lazy now, i don't even wanna go near the gym :-) same old mee...
lets see just in case.....

"The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the rest willing to let them."

The one

You are a CRA (Certified Recruitment Analyst). You have conducted 10 on campus interviews for freshers, tens of walkins and hundreds of off campus recruitment and hundreds of "scheduled interviews". Does this classify you to be an HR?? Well this is impressive, a techie doing all this and the same time i am embarrased to tell this to my friends, they might even think that i switched profiles. All organisational initiatives :-) phew!!! thats a big ask anyways. What a pity and all this at no extra incentives!!!!!
And the saddest part is that this whole interview thingie has rubbed off on me big time, even if i manage to strike a friendly conversation, ppl immediately point that it looks like i am interviewing them :-(
The other day i was trying to strike a deal with a car sales rep and he immediately asked me if i was a manager and did a lot of interviews:-) how'd he know that? thanks to interviews
... oh god .. i need a break :-(

Sucess keeps you Glowing, But only GOD keeps you Going.

Dotgeek PHP Tournament

Thanks to, I came to know about Dotgeek PHP Marathon

Looks pretty interesting, I will register and see if I can solve the problems!

Geek Jargons

The other day I was chatting to one of my friend and I wanted to tell her something like

Your money NOT EQUAL TO my money.

And I wrote,

Your money != My money.

I realized that I am using programming construct ‘!=’ instead of writing ‘not equal to’. Does it have anything to do with the fact that for last 3 days I am coding for 15 hours a day?

When was the last time you used a computer lingo in your conversation with non geek?

Flirtatious Flirt

Its been more than a few years i last flirted :-) . But today i realised i am even better. What a life i have been having -all work and no game.I was getting sick of this and was now equally desperate to do something different.Back then i was in shape( hey, even now i am but the shape is round) and cud easily shift gears while flirting. But then getting to know 2 girls in 3 days time, dropping one to home and exchanging phone numbers with the other!!! wow!! that calls for a real guru in the making. So I second the experts when they say - "form is temporary but class is permanent" heheheh secretly i am just hoping that this phase of time continues to be so... if not anything i can train the younger batch :-)

"Girl are you tired, cuz youve been running through my mind all day"

Lucky Transition

I have been blogging for some time now and also got regular at this. How i wish i could get regular visiting the GYM!!. Well i don;t know why, but i am feeling lucky today , so i thought about doing two things - change my blog link( my previous blog is linked) and also religiously work out at the GYM.
Not that the old blog was bad, I am a Google guy :-) so i made a transition to this blogsite.I like the idea of being able to share my findings, ideas and opinions about Technology, life and everything under the sun in an open forum that encourages dialogue and what more than Google? isn;t it rightly called GOD (Google oriented Development)

The first is done, so i am heading straight to GYM now:-)

The journey to a thousand miles begins with a single step
